It was in the late 90s 1997 I think as I think the Hale Bop comet was a few months later, I lived on Walnut avenue Mildura at the time and was taking the bins out at about 8.30/9pm at night and saw a bright Orange light in the sky down the river end of Walnut avenue travelling seemingly directly down the avenue ie from the North East to the South West, slowly and deliberately almost like it was following a compass bearing, I rushed back to the flat calling for my Mrs to come and look and grabbed the binoculars, we stood at the end of the driveway watching it for several minutes, as it got closer it was clearer to see, very strange object it seemed through the Binoculars it was a transparent sphere containing fire or energy, I could see the energy/fire constantly moving within the sphere but its spherical shape was perfectly maintained, there was no sound and it maintained a course parallel with the earth like an airliner, we watched it until it disappeared down the South West end of walnut avenue several minutes later.
Much to the concern of the G/F at the time I rang Mufon to report it (calls charged per second) the Mufon guy spoke about other fireballs reported in Australia and how they were likely some type of Tesla EM Weapons test, a month later a $279 phone bill arrived and I was told off royally by an even more concerned G/F 😂
The following week the local Newspaper (Sunraysia Daily) had an article of a man being chased by a Fireball in the sky down San Mateo avenue a few streets over in the early hours of the morning when he was driving to work.
