It was either 1999 or 2000. I lived in Wollongong and was working in Sutherland. I worked the Sunday shift starting at 6 am so would leave for work quite early. It was dark & so it may have been winter but I’m not sure.
I was driving along the A1 towards Sydney which goes through national park most of the way between Wollongong & Sydney. No street lights or anything and at that time the exit to Helensburgh was being built. As I was driving past this construction area I noticed big balls of white light. Lots of them all in a huge circle about tree top height. The ring of white ball things was the span of the entire highway so 2 lanes each side and a large Centre grassy area so quite wide. There were going around clockwise slowly and stayed in a perfect circle. Of course many thoughts were going through my head trying to work out what they could be but I’m still clueless today.
They lasted from the Helensburgh turn off until I was coming into the first town after the national park which is waterfall. The whole time it stayed the same height but moved forward & backwards behind my car and above and then up ahead above the other 3 cars ahead of me. The speed limit on that road is 110kph and we were all going around 130/140 by the end of the experience & I don’t know why they were speeding but I was speeding because I was scared and was trying to keep up with the other cars as I didn’t want to be left behind. That’s the gist of it.
