Vanishing Figure in Wandering

While driving near Wandering at dusk, I saw a robust, black creature cross the road. Initially mistaking it for a cow, I realized it was human-like, possibly 6-9 feet tall, with long front limbs. My friend saw it standing, while I saw it hunched. Its hair-covered face and tank-like build were striking. Strangely, it vanished into sparse trees, leaving no trace. The sighting, so close to open paddocks, baffled us and sparked my curiosity.
