During a fierce storm north-east of Mingenew, I spotted a creature crossing the road about 60 meters ahead. Roughly three feet long, it moved on all fours like a gorilla, with longer front limbs and wet, dark-brown hair. Its head was low, and its right hand seemed to clutch something. Despite the lightning and wind, I slowed but didn’t stop, as trees threatened to snap. The creature’s ape-like form was unlike any known animal, leaving me questioning what I’d seen.
